  The place names of Kinross-shire
The year 2018 is a busy one for museum volunteers who continue to list and research the museum’s collections, respond to enquiries, mount new exhibitions, engage with schools and adult learning in the community and take part in a variety of fieldwork projects such as the survey of memorial stones in the kirkyards of Kinross-shire.

Our Exhibition ‘Greetings from Kinross-shire, launched in July 2018, will be on show until mid-summer 2019 and our rolling exhibition on the First World War – ‘Lest We Forget’ – continues to be updated periodically.

New publications on sale in the museum include The Place-Names of Kinross-shire by Simon Taylor (Shaun Tyas 2017), price £35, and Carlin Maggie and other stories from the Bishopshire retold by David Munro (2017), price £3. Amongst other publications available are Loch Leven, ‘The great meeting place and sanctuary’', a guide to the Loch Leven Heritage Trail by David Munro (2015), price £4.95 Where Poets Dream’d: A guide to the Michael Bruce Way by David Munro, price £5 and Ode to the Gowk and other Bishopshire Lilts: poems and songs by Michael Bruce and James Beath, Price £5 (including CD).

If you want to learn more about what the museum does to conserve and promote local historical heritage, why not come and see our current exhibitions in the Loch Leven Community Campus and drop in on a Thursday or Saturday to meet our volunteers.
