Scotland’s Year of Stories
Heaven and Hell, Stories of hope and despair in Kinross-shire
Kinross Museum are
pleased to announce that they have been successful in their bid to obtain
funding for their Stories project which has been developed as part of
Scotland’s Year of Stories. This project concentrates on three stories
which are geographically rooted in Kinross-shire. The first is the story
of the dreadful persecution of witches in the seventeenth century, focussing
on the trials in the Crook of Devon. The second story takes us to John
Knox’s pulpit in Glenvale and the tale of the Covenanters and their
courageous fight to be allowed to worship God the way they had done for
centuries. The final story is one of hope and healing centred around the
well in Scotlandwell, with pilgrims visiting from as early as Roman times.
Children from local schools have been working on the three stories produced
for them by volunteers at Kinross Museum and the children will produce
their own re-interpretations of the stories in a variety of ways and these
will be displayed to help create an exhibition at the Museum starting
in September 2022.
The Museum will also produce information leaflets for each of the stories
which will give details of the story, information on how to visit places
connected with the story, illustrated with a selection of children’s
art work.
The culmination of the project will be a story telling evening in November,
where local storyteller, Douglas McKay, will bring the three stories to
life.
